THE FOUNDERS OF SOLO
Two athletes. One vision. A race that combines the power of the sea and the intensity of trail running
Giannis Vamvakidis
My name is Giannis Vamvakidis, founder and race director of the Frogman Greece Solo Swimrun series, and sport is a way of life for me. From a very young age, I entered the world of swimming, where I learned the true meaning of discipline, perseverance, and competition. I competed many times and achieved distinctions in club and national championships, and these experiences laid the foundations for everything that followed. Later on, I dived—both literally and figuratively—into triathlon. I have taken part in dozens of races across Greece, with many podium finishes. My athletic résumé also includes: 2 Full Ironman 6 Half Ironman In 2016, I completed the crossing of the Toroneos Gulf, one of the most demanding experiences of my life, finishing in 4th place with a time of 7:32’. At the same time, I participated in numerous open water swimming races, achieving strong placements in the national open water swimming championship. In recent years, swimrun has truly captured my heart—an endurance sport that combines everything that inspires me: sea, running, nature, and resilience. I competed in the international Rockman Swimrun race in Norway, an experience that broadened my horizons and inspired me to bring swimrun dynamically to Greece. The creation of the Frogman Greece Solo Swimrun series was born from a vision: to build authentic, high-quality, and safe races that showcase unique Greek locations and cultivate a real athlete community. Today, I organize Frogman Greece together with my brother, Alexandros Vamvakidis, sharing the same passion for sport and genuine endurance experiences. My goal is for Frogman Greece to become a benchmark for solo swimrun in Greece and to inspire more people to push beyond their limits through sport and nature. At the same time, I currently work as a swimming coach at the Corinth Nautical Club, passing on my experience and philosophy to the next generation of athletes. I have been an active race organizer since 2016: Isthmus of Corinth Crossing (2016) X-Mas Night Run Corinth (2017, 2018, 2019, 2025) Korfi Multi Race (2018–2019) Vrachati Run (2022, 2023, 2024) FROGMAN Series Solo Swimrun in Greece (2024–2025, 6 races) With many years of experience as an athlete, coach, and race organizer, my mission is to promote swimrun and long-distance endurance events in Greece and across Europe, creating high-level events and opportunities for athletes of all levels.
